15 years ago, the notion of electric cars replacing our beloved combustion engines sounded like nothing but a pipe dream. Most Americans back then just couldn’t fathom how much technology had to advance in order to replace millions of cars on the road.
Today we’re at the cusp of a golden age of electric cars. All because of the few who dared make it happen, including Elon Musk and his company Tesla, makers of the first truly mass-friendly electric vehicles.
The company’s meteoric rise has inspired every other major auto company to push out their own versions of the electric car. Without further ado, here are some of the most exciting electric cars releasing in the next decade.
Volkswagen I.D. Buzz
This car is the perfect combination of retro looks and modern flair. A reimagining of the iconic Type 2 bus that was most popular during the 60s, the I.D. Buzz is slated to release in 2022. Volkswagen claims the production version will have a 600-mile range and go from 0-60 in 5 seconds.
The car will also feature a customizable interior and full autonomous capabilities. Now that’s groovy.
Faraday Future FF 91
When someone thinks of futuristic-looking cars, the FF 91 is usually what it looks like in their head. From mercurial automaker Faraday Future, the FF 91 is set to be released in 2019. The large crossover boasts of 1050 horsepower, a 300-mile range, and a ridiculous 0-60 time of just 2.4 seconds.
According to Faraday Future, uncompromising luxury was in mind when they came up with the vehicle’s design. From its sleek, aerodynamic exterior to its spacious interior, the FF 91 screams luxury. If you’ve got the cash, this just might be the car for you.
Tesla Model Y
This list wouldn’t be complete without a Tesla entry. Set to be unveiled this year, the Model Y will be Tesla’s darling in the burgeoning crossover market. Featuring the same ‘falcon-wing’ doors from its big brother Model X, the Model Y is poised to be Tesla’s most advanced electric car yet.
We can only hope that its pricing will be as competitive as the Model 3, which it shares its platform with.
The Rivian R1T is the truck for the true adventurer. This incredible car was the spectacle of last year’s LA Auto Show, and with good reason. The R1T will be the first-ever electric production pick-up truck when it releases in late 2020.
The vehicle will feature 4 motors, up to 400 miles of range, a wading depth of 3 feet, and the ability to go 0-60 in 3 seconds. Still not convinced? Rivian says the truck’s base model will be available for less than $90K.
These are just some of the most exciting electric cars coming soon. There are plenty more good ones out there. Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments section and I’ll try to cover them next.
